What does it mean that the event is virtual?

A virtual event is an event that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill or on the track. You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.

You’ll be given the opportunity to record your time for the 5 Mile and 1 Mile Walk/Run and see how you stack against others in the same distance. The Kids event will include some warm up activities and a walk/run in your neighborhood.  You may also participate in the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Challenge on Strava throughout Thanksgiving week.

Options for In Person Packet Pickup or Shipping

You’ll be given the option during registration to select to pick up your packet in person, or have it shipped to your door.

We strongly urge individuals to consolidate their pickups to prevent overcrowding at our packet pickup locations. You are welcome to pick up packets for friends and family members.

Information about Shipping

If receiving your packet prior to Thanksgiving is important to you, we recommend you choose to pick up your packet in person. Or, you can also register for the event prior to October 31st, and your package will be amongst the first batch processed in early November for shipment. While we will continue to fulfill shipments weekly leading up to Thanksgiving Day, and after, due to the uncertainty of transit time with the postal service, we can not guarantee any mailed packets are received prior to Thanksgiving Day.

100% of all proceeds for this event are donated to Caritas of Austin.  Caritas of Austin has been ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot’s sole beneficiary since the beginning in 1991. During the past 30 years, ThunderCloud has given more than $4.1 million to Caritas.

What’s different about the Kids’ K this year?

We’ve added some warm-ups before the run/walk and everyone receives a finisher’s wristband!  You can start recording your results as early as 11/23 and finish up by 11/27.

Kids Activity Includes:

  • Enter how many jumping jacks you can do.
  • Enter how many squats you can do.
  • Enter how many blocks you walk in your neighborhood.
  • Download the attached image of this year’s logo below, color it in any way that suits you, and post your drawings on the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Facebook page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I get when I register for the event?

You get to select between an adult long sleeve t-shirt, a short sleeve youth t-shirt, a headband/wristband set, a $10 gift card to ThunderCloud Subs, bandana, or a face mask. You’ll also receive a commemorative run bib and a BOGO coupon for ThunderCloud Subs.

I noticed I got an email to be a fundraiser. Is that required?

Fundraising is optional, but encouraged. Caritas of Austin supports those in need in the Austin area.

Why is fundraising so important?

We want to end homelssness in Austin. The City of Austin spends on average $27,804.88 per homeless person (PER YEAR!) to provide shelter and food, but never addresses clothing, permanent residence or vocational training.  On average, Caritas of Austin spends $17,000 to raise a person out of homelessness into a self-sufficient working individual with their own place to call home.

If that’s not incentive enough, we’re also providing a prize package to the top fundraiser!
