Trot 2017 – Register Now

Register now for the Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot, Austin’s beloved Thanksgiving tradition benefiting Caritas of Austin.

Not only are we the largest five mile run in Texas, we also offer a one mile walk and Kids K. We have a course for every member of the family!

Remember to check out the Turkey Trot Raffle and enter for your chance to win a brand new Honda Accord courtesy of First Texas Honda.

Over 850 participants donated or fundraised nearly $22,000 in last year’s Fundraising Challenge! We need your help again this year to build on that success and help us reach our goal of raising $30,000.  Your donations and fundraising efforts have a direct impact on our local community.

Register for a run/walk, purchase raffle tickets, or participate in the Fundraising Challenge; no matter what you do, you are helping enable Caritas of Austin to support people on their journey out of crisis toward self-sufficiency through housing, food, education, and employment services.

Last year we were able to present Caritas with a check for $330,000 and have raised over $3.1 million dollars over the last 26 years.  Together we can make our 27th year our most successful year yet!

Volunteer

Each year, we rely on the help of more than 650 volunteers to make packet pickup and Thanksgiving Day logistics possible for this event. Volunteer opportunities include packet pickup at First Texas Honda, event day registration at the Long Center, and clean-up after the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot is finished.

This is a great opportunity for both individuals and groups looking to help this holiday season.

YOU MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE

For over 50 years, Caritas of Austin has been a turning point in people’s lives. Each year Caritas serves thousands of families and individuals who do not have a stable place to call home. Through comprehensive, relationship-based services, Caritas of Austin turns crisis into stability and empowers people toward the life they want. Caritas believes that a thriving community derives its strength from providing all members the opportunity to be self-reliant.

MISSION

Caritas of Austin provides a service continuum for those experiencing poverty that begins with a safety net and links them to resources to achieve self-sufficiency.

VISION

Caritas envisions a community where there is respect for all individuals, hope for those experiencing poverty and opportunities for self-reliance.

WHO CARITAS SERVES

Caritas’ clients include households of all sizes; many of whom are veterans, refugees, women and children. They all share a common reality: they do not have a stable place to call home. Some have experienced homelessness for years and others have just found themselves without a place to call home. Caritas believes that people lack not the motivation to improve their life, but the opportunity to do so. Caritas helps people restore stability in their lives so people can pursue their life goals.

APPROACH

Caritas of Austin believes in a “housing-first approach” in their efforts to end homelessness. They know that people must first secure a stable living situation before they can address other areas of crisis in their lives. Once clients establish stable housing, they can focus on opportunities for employment, education, food, physical and mental health services and building a network of support. Caritas of Austin’s professional staff members facilitate this comprehensive approach; which is evidence-based and effective in helping people achieve self-sufficiency.

IMPACT

Caritas of Austin measures success in terms of lasting stability. The goal is for clients to restore stability and help them reach their goals and aspirations.

Additionally, this year Caritas of Austin will:

• Serve 80,000 meals in our Community Kitchen

• Provide enough take-home groceries for 45,000 meals for hungry families

• Help 550 individuals find employment

• Offer 1,000 education classes on topics like money management, cultural orientation, life skills, and workforce development

• Resettle 550 international refugees in their transition to life in the United States

The entire community benefits from Caritas of Austin’s services. A strong community is one where every person and family has the opportunity to be self-reliant.
