Thank you to everyone that entered the 2016 ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot raffle! As you may already know, 100 percent of the money from each and every raffle ticket sale went directly to Caritas of Austin. Caritas is a nonprofit that supports Austin’s homeless and working poor on their journey out of crisis toward self-sufficiency through housing, food, education, and employment services.
If you entered the raffle, here’s an example of the positive impact you made. If you purchased one ticket for $25, Caritas was able to provide nine lunches in its Community Kitchen because of you. If you bought five tickets for $100, Caritas was able to provide a work uniform and shoes to a newly employed individual because of you. That is huge!

Angel Rangel, grand prize winner of a new Accord from First Texas Honda
Angel and his wife Dalila live in Buda, Texas and have four beautiful daughters. The growing family has been participating in the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot for the past nine years. Angel runs the five-miler with his buddies, and Dalila walks the one mile with their girls. This year, Dalila purchased a five-pack of raffle tickets. She put her husband’s name on one, and the names of their four daughters on the others. Angel was in Home Depot when Dalila called with the fantastic news that he had won a brand new Honda Accord from First Texas Honda.. He was in such disbelief that he thought he was on a hidden camera show! To top it off, First Texas Honda surprised the family with a brand spanking new 2017 Accord instead of a 2016! The white Honda Accord EX-L was wrapped with a giant red bow when the Rangels walked onto the showroom floor, and you could see their faces light up. Angel and Dalila’s oldest daughter Sofia (14) wasn’t able to come with the family to pick it up, but the Rangels say she has already been asking them to pass it down to her when she gets her driver’s license in a few years. The raffle grand prize truly couldn’t have gone to a nicer, more deserving family. Congratulations to the Rangels, and we hope you enjoy your brand new Honda!
Diane McCartney, winner of the Ultimate YETI Package
Diane has been participating in the one-mile walk at the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot with her family almost every year since they moved to Austin about a decade ago. Before that, Diane lived in Dallas and they participated in the local Turkey Trot there. Diane bought a five-pack of raffle tickets and was pleasantly surprised to find out she won the YETI package! The prizes weren’t Diana’s biggest motivation for entering, however. Diane admittedly said she bought the raffle tickets because she wanted to support Caritas and believes in the work they’re doing. Congratulations Diane, and thank you for supporting Caritas!
Rosa Pena, winner of the Mellow Johnny’s $500 Gift Package
Rosa is retired and lives in Cedar Park with her husband, who is a policeman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Rosa and her family run/walk the ThunderCloud Subs Trot each year, and she purchased a five-pack of raffle tickets for $100 this year. She was thrilled to learn she won the Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop gift package and said she’s going to use it buy a cruiser for herself. Congratulations Rosa, and we hope you enjoy your new cruiser!
